WPW10197428 Whirlpool Start Device
The French Door Refrigerator Start Device Assembly is mounted to the side of the compressor on the back of the refrigerator and causes the compressor to start when refrigeration is needed. If your refrigerator is not cold, or you hear humming or clicking noises coming from the back of the appliance, the start device assembly may need to be replaced. Installing this part will require basic tools, some disassembly of the refrigerator and prior repair experience. Remember to unplug the refrigerator or shut off the house circuit breaker for the appliance before installing this part. Also turn off the refrigerator’s water supply before you begin.

1. Turn off any power sources connected to the Start-Dev Kit. This includes shutting off the main power source.
2. Unscrew and remove the Phillips screws located along the edges of the Start-Dev Kit.
3. Carefully pull the Start-Dev Kit away from the wall until it is separated from the electrical connections.
4. Place a towel near the area to protect your floor and ensure that the Start-Dev Kit does not fall or slip while you are working.
5. Remove the screws located on the sides of the Start-Dev Kit to separate it into two parts.
6. Take the top part off of the Start-Dev Kit, then remove the old Start-Dev Kit by gently pulling it out. Make sure the wires remain undisturbed so they can be easily reconnected.
7. Insert the new Start-Dev Kit into the same spot where the old one previously was.
8. Reattach the screws on the sides of the Start-Dev Kit to put them back together.
9. Reconnect all of the wires that were detached and reattach the Phillips screws to secure the device against the wall.
10. Double check to make sure everything is secure and reconnect the power source to the Start-Dev Kit.
