279973 Whirlpool Dryer Thermal Cut Off and High Limit Thermostat Kit
This Dryer High Limit Thermostat and Fuse Kit regulates the temperature of the dryer stopping it from overheating. If your dryer does not heat as expected, replacing this part alleviate the issue. The part is located behind the front access panel of the dryer. When replacing, make note of the the position of the colored wires when disconnecting. Both the thermostat and fuse can be tested to determine if either is defective before you begin the repair. DIY Steps to Replacing the 279973 Whirlpool Dryer Thermal Cut Off and High Limit Thermostat Kit
1. Unplug the dryer from the wall outlet.
2. Open the dryer door and remove the two screws attaching the top panel of the dryer to the back wall. Lift the top panel up to access the back of the dryer.
3. Locate the thermal cutoff and high limit thermostat kit. It is usually in one of the upper corners and connected to the heating element.
4. Remove the two wires connected to the thermal cutoff and high limit thermostat kit. If necessary, use a multimeter to make sure the power is off.
5. Unscrew the screws that mount the thermal cutoff and high limit thermostat kit to the back wall of the dryer.
6. Carefully remove the thermal cutoff and high limit thermostat kit from the dryer.
7. Replace it with the 279973 Whirlpool Dryer Thermal Cut Off and High Limit Thermostat Kit.
8. Secure the new kit with the screws you removed in step 5.
9. Reconnect the two wires to the new kit.
10. Reassemble the dryer in reverse order.
11. Plug the dryer back in and test to make sure the replacement was successful.
