Step 1: Unplug the Oven
Make sure to unplug the oven before starting the repair. If it is a hardwired oven, turn off the power at your circuit breaker.
Step 2: Remove the Back Cover
First, remove the screws that hold the back cover onto the oven. Once the screws are out, slide the back cover up and out.
Step 3: Locate and Remove the Bake Element
The bake element is located at the bottom of the oven cavity. Using a putty knife or screwdriver, carefully pry the two ends of the bake element away from the mounting bracket. There may be screws attaching the bake element to the bracket, so make sure to take note of which ones to remove.
Step 4: Wiring the New Bake Element
Once the old bake element is removed, proceed with wiring the new one. Start by connecting the red wire to the terminal marked in red. Next, connect the black wire to the terminal marked in black. Finally, connect the white wire to the terminal marked in white.
Step 5: Reinstall Bake Element
Once all of the wires are connected, slide the bake element back in place and secure with the screws you removed earlier. Be sure to tighten the screws to ensure the bake element is securely held in place.
Step 6: Reattach the Cover
Once the bake element is secure, you can reinstall the cover by sliding it back into position and securing with the screws.
Step 7: Test the Oven
Finally, turn the oven back on and test it to make sure it is working properly. Open the oven door and check to see if heat is coming out of the bake element. If not, check the wiring again and repeat the process. If heat is coming out, you’ve successfully replaced the W10779716 Whirlpool Bake Element!
Please keep in mind, these instructions are for general guidance and should always be used in conjunction with the manufacturer's manual, if available.
