Step 1: Unplug the Power Cord
Safety first! Make sure to unplug the power cord from the wall before doing any work on the dryer.
Step 2: Remove the Lint Screen and Lint Cover
Use your Phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws located on the inside of the lint screen. Once these are removed, pull the lint screen out and remove the lint cover as well.
Step 3: Remove the Top Panel
With the lint cover off, locate the four Phillips head screws securing the top panel. Remove the screws and set aside. With the screws gone, lift up and remove the top panel.
Step 4: Disconnect the Dryer Drum
Turn the dryer drum until you have access to the idler pulley arm. Disconnect it by pulling it off the belt pulley.
Step 5: Remove the Old Pulley Arm
Using your flathead screwdriver, loosen the tension bolt located on the old pulley arm. It should come off easily once it has been loosened. Removing the pulley arm from the motor mount is a bit more complicated. To do this, you need to pry the arm off the mount using a flathead screwdriver.
Step 6: Install the New Assembly
Now that the old arm has been removed, it’s time to install the new one. Start by attaching the new pulley arm to the motor mount. Once it is in place, use the tension bolt to tighten it into place. Next, attach the dryer drum to the new arm. Make sure it is secured tightly in place.
Step 7: Reassemble
Once the new pulley arm has been installed, reassemble the dryer by following the above steps in reverse. All that’s left is to plug the power cord back in and test the dryer!
And there you have it! You’ve replaced the WP37001144 Whirlpool Dryer Idler Pulley Arm Assembly, and your dryer should be running smoothly in no time.
Please keep in mind, these instructions are for general guidance and should always be used in conjunction with the manufacturer's manual, if available.
