1. Gather the necessary materials for the job - a Phillips screwdriver, WD01X10569 GE Door Cable, and (optional) lubricant spray.

2. Unplug the refrigerator or freezer from its power source.

3. Close the door to ensure it is completely shut, as it needs to remain in this position throughout the repair process.

4. Locate the screws securing the upper hinge cover.

5. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws, then carefully slide off the cover.

6. Locate and disconnect the damaged door cable by pulling its plug out of the socket.

7. Feed the new door cable through the door's upper hinge flange and connect it to the back side of the top hinge bracket.

8. Reconnect the plug from the new door cable into the socket.

9. Slide the upper hinge cover back over the door cable, then replace its screws.

10. Plug in the refrigerator or freezer and test the door switch.

11. (Optional) Spray a light lubricant onto the hinge and cable for smoother operation if desired.
