WP8299779 Whirlpool Timer

The 60Hz Dryer Timer controls the electrical components of the appliance and duration of its drying cycles. If any of the contacts in your appliance’s timer have burned out, or if the motor inside the unit shorted out and the timer is no longer functioning, you can easily replace the assembly with this part. This assembly does not include the timer knob, but you can purchase it separately. Note that timer issues are often misdiagnosed; refer to the Repair Help section on the Whirlpool Parts website for additional repair information. Installing this part will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the dryer and novice repair experience. Replacing the WP8299779 Whirlpool Timer
1. Begin by unplugging the appliance from the power source.
2. Take a picture of the wiring and connections so that you can refer back to it when reassembling.
3. Remove the screws or clips that hold the control panel in place and remove the control panel from the appliance.
4. Remove the wires from the old timer and make notes on how it was connected. This will help with connecting the new timer.
5. Insert the new timer into the appliance and attach the wires according to your notes.
6. Secure the timer with the screws or clips removed in Step 3.
7. Reattach the control panel, making sure to align it properly with the other components.
8. Plug the appliance back into the power source and test the timer’s operation.
9. If all is working properly, replace the access panels, secure them in place, and you’re done!
