1. Unplug the power of your Whirlpool washing machine before beginning any repairs to avoid electric shock.
2. Remove the screws on the back of the top access panel that covers the agitator with a Phillips screwdriver and pull off the panel.
3. Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the retaining clips that secure the agitator in place.
4. Lift the agitator out of the washer and set aside.
5. Locate the impeller, which is located in the center of the wash plate beneath the agitator.
6. Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the impeller in place.
7. Carefully remove the impeller and discard it.
8. Insert the new impeller into the center of the wash plate and secure it in place with the two screws.
9. Place the agitator back into the washer and reattach the retaining clips.
10. Replace the back access panel and secure it in place with the screws that were previously removed.
11. Turn the power back on to the washer and test the new impeller before running a cycle.
