Step 1: Prepare the tools needed for the job. In order to replace the LG MFG61979001 Microwave Oven Slide-out Hood Locker, you will need a Phillips head screwdriver, a pair of scissors, and a flathead screwdriver.
Step 2: Disconnect power. Open the microwave's door and unplug it from its power source before you start doing any work to it.
Step 3: Remove the existing hood locker. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove three screws from the side panels and two from the top panel. Then, carefully lift off the top panel and slide the hood locker forward so it is completely detached from the oven.
Step 4: Install the new hood locker. Place the new hood locker in the same position as the old one and make sure that it is lined up correctly. Secure the hood locker with the screws you removed previously.
Step 5: Reattach the top panel. Replace the top panel along with the two screws and secure it tightly.
