Step 1: Unplug Your Refrigerator
First and foremost, unplug the refrigerator before doing any maintenance work.

Step 2: Remove the Refrigerator’s Back Panel
Take off the refrigerator’s back panel and locate the defrost heater.

Step 3: Disconnect the Wiring
Carefully disconnect the two electrical wires that lead to the defrost heater.

Step 4: Remove the Defrost Heater
Use a wrench to remove the mounting screws that are holding the defrost heater in place, then remove the unit from the refrigerator.

Step 5: Install the New Heater
Secure the new defrost heater in the mounting holes of the refrigerator, and reconnect the electrical wires firmly.

Step 6: Replace the Back Panel
Replace the back panel of the refrigerator and plug the unit in.

Step 7: Test the Heater
Turn on the refrigerator and check to make sure the new defrost heater is working properly.
