Step 1: Unplug the GE dishwasher and turn off the power to the appliance.
Step 2: Open the dishwasher door and remove all of the dishes so you can gain better access to the upper rack.
Step 3: Lift the upper rack out of the dishwasher.
Step 4: Inspect the old cap - Upper Rack Rail End Cap (GE WD12X23617) and make sure that it needs to be replaced before continuing.
Step 5: Remove the old end cap using a Phillips head screwdriver. Save the screws if they are in good condition.
Step 6: Insert the new cap into the hole where the old one was removed. Secure the new cap with the same screws or ones of an appropriate size.
Step 7: Place the upper rack back into the dishwasher and secure it in place.
Step 8: Turn the power back on to the appliance and plug it back in.
Step 9: Run a cycle through the dishwasher to make sure everything is working properly.
