Step 1: Unplug the Microwave
Unplug your GE microwave from the wall outlet before you begin any work on it. This helps to prevent you from getting shocked and also keeps the electrical system of the appliance safe.

Step 2: Remove the Cover
The filter is located behind the grille of the microwave and the fan system, so you'll need to pull off the cover to access the filter. To do this, take a small flathead screwdriver and gently press it between the top edges of the cover and the body of the appliance. Lift and remove the cover carefully.

Step 3: Remove the Filter
Now that you can access the filter, you'll want to remove it carefully. First, locate the filter and note how it is attached. In some models, the filter is secured with screws, while in others, it may be held in place with clips.

If there are screws, use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove them. If the filter is held in with clips, use a pair of needle-nose pliers to gently squeeze and release the clips, which will allow you to remove the filter.

Step 4: Replace the Filter
Now it's time to replace the old filter with the new one. Line up the new filter with the opening and make sure that it is properly seated. If there are any screws, secure them in place. If the filter is held in with clips, use the pliers to gently squeeze the clips to secure it in place.

Step 5: Reattach the Cover
Replace the cover and use the flathead screwdriver to press it securely back into place. Plug the microwave back into the wall outlet and you're done!
