This Range Element Control Switch turns the surface element on and off and controls how much heat the element produces. If your element remains at high heat or doesn’t turn ...on at all, replacing this part may alleviate these issues. To access the part, you'll need to remove the back panel of the range. Depending upon your model, you may not have the same terminal blocks and you may need to swap out your wires one at a time. This switch is for 6-inch burners (5.2- 6.6 amp). For 8" burners, use part WP3149400 at whirlpoolparts.com under item number 2786. Replacing this part will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the appliance and novice repair experience. The Gas Range Spark Ignition Switch Assembly includes the igniter switch and complete wire harness that supplies gas to light the surface burners on the cooktop. If the elemen ...t itself shorted out, or if the igniter of your range glows for more than 90 seconds without lighting the gas flame, replacing this part may alleviate the issue. The igniter must glow white hot to properly light the burner; if it glows red or orange it is not functioning properly. Replacing this assembly will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the gas range and novice repair experience. You must unplug the range or shut off the house circuit breaker for the appliance before installing this part.
